Jane Black | It’s probably no surprise that Sir Paul McCartney, a long-time vegetarian, banned all meat from staff meals on his current world tour. But when Mario Batali starts to push people to eat their vegetables, you know something is happening⊠http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/05/18/AR2010051800891.html
Dixie Mahy, President of The San Francisco Vegetarian Society, was pleased to receive a Certificate of Recognition on March 20 from Supervisor Eric Mar and The San Francisco Board of Supervisors recognizing the Society for its support of MEAT OUT Day at its annual Meat Out Luncheon. The idea for the Great American Meat Out is based on The Great American Smoke Out of years ago encouraging smokers to go without smoking one day. âNow we encourage people to go without meat one day in hopes they will kick the âmeat habitâ and replace it with good food and good health.â

Sir Paul McCartney has followed in the footsteps of the world’s leading climate scientist and a small Belgian town by calling on people to go meat-free one day a week and cut carbon emissions.
Backed by celebrities ranging from Chris Martin to Sheryl Crow, McCartney launched his Meat Free Monday campaign asking households to cut out meat on Mondays and slow global warming.
McCartney’s meat-free mission will be supported by several high-profile chefs, including Giorgio Locatelli and Yotam Ottolenghi, who have created vegetarian recipes for the campaign’s website.
